What the 5th of the month actually costs an electrical contractor

Electrical is a material-heavy trade with a labor-heavy schedule, which is a bad combination for cash. You buy gear and wire early, you bill in arrears, the general contractor holds 5 or 10 percent retainage, and the payment cycle runs net-30 from approval — not from submission.
