Every hauler over about four trucks has this person, and every one of them has learned the same thing: the disposal site's portal was built for the site, not for you. No download-everything button. No way to connect it to your billing system. A login, a date filter, and a lot of clicking.

Why the transfer station will never build you an export button

Understand the incentive. The scale house software — WasteWORKS, a Paradigm build, whatever the county bought in 2013 — exists to weigh trucks, apply the tipping fee and print a ticket. The customer portal was bolted on so haulers would stop calling the scale house for copies, and it does that job. There is no version of the world where a county transfer station spends money to make your billing faster.

So the trade built workarounds and called them fine. Some staple every printed ticket to the route sheet. Some have the driver photograph the paper copy in the cab. Some accept the site's month-end statement and never reconcile a ticket against a haul, which means tonnage overage billing depends on whether anyone got around to it. The same Tuesday, run the new way

At 6:15 the agent has already been through all four portals.
