First, the 1M context window is GA, not beta — Anthropic moved it out of preview alongside production SLAs. Second, adaptive thinking now decides per-call how many tokens of chain-of-thought to spend, which removes a tuning parameter teams used to fight with. Long-running session memory becomes trivial. A 4-hour customer support conversation runs ~30k tokens. A multi-day deal-cycle conversation with full email threads, CRM history, and product docs sits comfortably in 200-400k tokens. Both fit, with cache, at production economics.
RAG becomes optional, not required. When the durable knowledge a workload needs fits in a cached prefix, retrieval is no longer mandatory. RAG remains useful for fresh / mutating data, but pure documentation lookup can move into the cached system context.
