Michigan Avenue Runs on Cars and Arabic — Dearborn's Phones Should Handle Both

Drive Michigan Avenue through Dearborn at 7:30 on a weekday morning and you can read the city's whole economy from the turn lane: dealership rows waking up, service bays rolling their doors open, tire shops with the coffee already burnt, machine shops and parts suppliers feeding the plants, and between all of it the restaurants prepping for a lunch rush that will be ordered in Arabic and English in roughly equal measure. The Rouge complex has anchored this town for a century. The neighborhoods that grew up around it made Dearborn the center of Arab American life — and made Arabic a working language of the car business itself.

Inside the service lane, that's a solved problem. Plenty of advisors, techs, and counter staff switch languages mid-sentence. The unsolved problem is sitting on the counter: the phone, which routes every caller into whichever language the person who happens to answer happens to speak. When those don't match, the authorization stalls, the parts question goes sideways, and a customer who would have said yes in Arabic says let me think about it in English.

The service lane is bilingual. The service phone is a coin flip.

CallSphere's Live Interpreter takes the coin flip out. It joins the call on your existing number and interprets both directions in real time — the caller speaks Arabic, your counter hears English; your counter answers in English, the caller hears Arabic. It can open by asking the caller to pick a language, and it covers 57+ of them, so the same line that takes Arabic at nine takes Spanish at ten without anyone touching a setting.

One repair authorization, no guesswork

    F --> G{Approve the inspection?}
    G -->|Yes| H[Drop-off booked for 8 am with a loaner reserved]

Every service department knows what that call is worth. Authorizations approved on the first conversation instead of the third, fewer comebacks born from a misunderstood symptom, and a customer who tells his brothers-in-law the shop on Michigan Avenue talks to him straight.

Dinner for forty, ordered right the first time

Dearborn's restaurant economy is a phone economy. The juice bars and shawarma counters run on walk-ins, but the money orders — the graduation platters, the office lunches, the forty-person family dinners — come in by phone, usually in the caller's strongest language, usually with a dozen details that all have to survive: date, headcount, spice level, which cousin is picking it up. A restaurant that takes that order through a live interpreter gets the tray count right, the deposit confirmed, and the pickup time agreed in both languages. The one that doesn't finds out Friday at six.

Clinics on Schaefer hear it all before noon

Dearborn's medical and dental offices field Arabic-speaking callers all day — new patients, refill questions, insurance checks, grandmothers scheduling for three generations at once. Interpreted phone intake means the reason for the visit is captured accurately, the appointment type is right, and nobody's teenager gets pulled out of class to translate a symptom over speakerphone. It also means the practice two suburbs over stops inheriting your callers.

And after close, CallSphere's AI receptionist answers alone — in the caller's language — books the appointment or the drop-off, and leaves the lead waiting for morning. The 9 p.m. call about a car that has to make it to Chicago tomorrow becomes an 8 a.m. bay slot instead of a voicemail.

Put it on the counter phone this week

You can audition the whole thing without touching your phone system: open the live interpreter demo in a browser, speak English, and have the sharpest Arabic speaker in the building answer back. If it survives that panel of judges, the pilot takes a week and the verdict comes from your own call log.

Frequently asked questions

Our callers switch between Arabic and English mid-sentence. Does that confuse it?

Mixed conversation is normal here and the interpreter is built for how people actually talk. The honest answer is to test it with your own callers' style: the browser demo takes minutes and your ears outrank anything we write.

Can it handle the technical vocabulary of a service department?

Estimates, part names, and repair explanations are exactly the conversations it carries all day. Numbers and prices are rendered precisely in both directions, which is the difference between an authorization and an argument.

We already have Arabic speakers on staff. What does this add?

Coverage. Your bilingual advisor takes one call at a time, works one shift, and takes vacations. The interpreter is on every line simultaneously, all day, in 57+ languages — including the Spanish, Urdu, or Bengali calls your staff can't cover.

Does the caller pay anything or dial anything new?

No. Same number on your sign, any phone they own. The language choice at the start of the call is the only thing they'll notice — and it's asked in their language.

What's the commitment after the pilot?

Dearborn built the American car and rebuilt the American main street, in two languages, at the same time. The phone on the counter is the last tool in the shop that only works in one. Trade it up.
