# Coding, Finance, Law: Anthropic's Domain Managed Agents

> Why Anthropic picked coding, finance, and law for managed agents — and how the patterns apply to voice AI verticals like healthcare and real estate.

Anthropic's May 2026 research preview of managed agents picked three domains: **coding, finance, and law**. Not customer service, not voice, not marketing. The choice is signal-rich. This post unpacks the picking criteria — and what they tell us about which other domains will follow.

## Why these three

### Coding

- **Verifiable outputs.** Tests pass or fail. CI builds green or red.
- **Long-horizon tasks.** A real engineering task (build a feature, refactor a module, triage a P1) takes hours to days.
- **High labor cost.** Senior engineer time is $150–$300/hr loaded.
- **Existing tool ecosystem.** Git, CI/CD, code review tools, package managers — well-defined APIs.

### Finance

- **Verifiable intermediate steps.** Trial balances reconcile. Numbers tie out. Audit trails exist.
- **Long-horizon tasks.** Month-end close, audit prep, deal due diligence are multi-day workflows.
- **High labor cost.** Analyst time $80–$150/hr, MD time $400–$1000/hr.
- **Structured data.** ERP, accounting, market data feeds.

### Law

- **Verifiable steps.** Citations exist or don't. Precedent matches or doesn't.
- **Long-horizon tasks.** Discovery, contract review, brief drafting are multi-week.
- **High labor cost.** Associate time $300–$700/hr.
- **Structured-ish data.** Westlaw, court records, contract repositories.

## The pattern

All three share:

1. **Verifiability of intermediate steps** (you can test the agent without waiting for the end).
2. **Long horizons** (worth investing in a managed runtime).
3. **High expert labor cost** (managed-agent pricing pencils).
4. **Existing structured data and tools** (the agent has something to grab onto).

## Which domains come next

By the same criteria, the next wave is likely:

- **Healthcare administrative workflows** (prior auth, claims, intake) — verifiable, long-horizon, expensive labor, structured data (FHIR). Real estate transactions and inspections fit a similar mold.
- **Sales operations** (CRM hygiene, deal forecasting, account research) — verifiable, structured data, but lower labor cost per hour.
- **HR operations** (onboarding, benefits admin, compliance) — similar pattern.

**What likely does NOT get a managed-agent treatment in 2026:**

- **Inbound voice contact-center work.** Short horizon (5–20 min calls). Lower labor cost ($20–$40/hr). The managed-agent overhead does not pencil at that price point.
- **Marketing content generation.** Outputs are not verifiable in the same crisp way.
- **Open-ended customer support.** Verifiability is squishy.

## What CallSphere takes from this

CallSphere is in the **short-horizon, high-volume, voice-first** lane. That is intentionally NOT where Anthropic is going with managed agents in 2026. Our take:

- The right architecture for voice is **managed platform with embedded eval loops** — which is what CallSphere is today.
- The right architecture for long-horizon healthcare back-office work (prior auth, claims) **is** a managed agent — and we expect partners (or Anthropic directly) to ship there in H2 2026.
- Voice is the front door; long-horizon back-office is the back door. Both will exist; they are different products.

## What you should do

**If you are in coding/finance/law:** evaluate Anthropic's managed agents preview. It is the most credible long-horizon offering shipped to date.

**If you are in healthcare, real estate, sales, salon, IT helpdesk, or after-hours voice:** use a managed voice platform like CallSphere for the short-horizon work, and keep an eye on managed agents for adjacent long-horizon back-office workflows.

**If you are building both:** the integration pattern is "voice front door hands off to long-horizon back-office agent." That is a 2027 architecture; pieces are arriving in 2026.

## FAQ

**Q: Why didn't Anthropic include healthcare in the initial managed-agents preview?**
A: Likely a combination of regulatory complexity (HIPAA, FDA) and the fact that healthcare workflows are heterogeneous across payers/providers. Expect a vertical-specific announcement later.

**Q: Could a voice agent be the trigger for a long-horizon back-office agent?**
A: Yes — and CallSphere can already trigger external workflows via webhook. The "complete the back-office task" half is what the managed-agents preview is starting to solve.

**Q: Is the managed-agents preview multi-model?**
A: It runs on Claude Opus 4.7. Not multi-model today.
